Canterbury City negotiate financial backing which will secure mid-to-long-term future but being search for new home venue as lease at Salters Lane expires at the end of the season

CANTERBURY CITY begin the search for a venue to play their home games next season but have announced that they have negotiated financial backing which will ensure their security for the mid to long-term future.

“Canterbury City Football Club are pleased to announce that we have negotiated financial backing which will ensure the club’s security for the mid to long-term future.  In turn it provides us confirmation of being able to compete in the Southern Counties East Football League,” said a club statement.

“After a difficult season we are sure that this will be positive news for all our players and supporters as we continue the quest to get back to our own ground in the City.

“The next few weeks will see more details emerge.  However, at this stage, we plan strategically the structure and running of the club in the interests of Canterbury City FC.

“Unfortunately, this good news is somewhat dampened by the fact we now find ourselves once again searching for a groundshare.

“We have been advised by Faversham Town Football Club that they don’t wish to discuss the possibility of remaining at Salters Lane when our lease ends after completion of this season.

“Therefore if there are any clubs in the region who are possibly able to assist and ensure our continued presence in the League, would they kindly please contact CEO/club secretary Richie Moore by email secretary@canterburycityfc.net.”

On-the-pitch, Canterbury City go into today’s relegation six-pointer at home to Rusthall in the bottom six in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division, having collected 17 points from 21 games.

Canterbury City go into the game on a run of 11 games without a win, while Rusthall, who are one place lower with the same number of points having secured back-to-back away wins over Holmesdale and Lordswood.
