Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer unveils Ronnie Schwartz capture
CHARLTON ATHLETIC have confirmed the permanent signing of Ronnie Schwartz from Champions League side FC Midtjylland for an undisclosed fee.
The highly-rated, 31-year-old striker, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Addicks to become the League One club’s first signing of the January transfer window.
Schwartz, a natural goalscorer, has netted 119 career goals in 287 appearances, and was the top scorer in the Danish First Division in 2018/19 with Silkeborg. He carried that form into the Danish Superliga, netting 18 goals in 35 appearances, with Silkeborg and then FC Midtjylland. He ended the 2019/20 season as the Danish Superliga’s top scorer, as FC Midtjylland were crowned Danish champions.
Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer told the club website: “His finishing is very good. I witnessed it first-hand in training today. To see him finishing the way he does and know that he is going to improve is a big plus.
“Strikers tend win you games, once we create chances he is a fox in the box. His work rate is good, his movement is good and he’s very clever. He’s got all the experience, so it’s a great signing.”
Schwartz will require Home Office approval under the EU Settlement Scheme before he can play for the Addicks, with the Charlton hierarchy hopeful of approval ahead of Friday’s home game against Accrington Stanley.
He will wear the number 29 for the club,
Charlton Athletic are presently in sixth-place in the EFL League One table with nine wins and five draws from their 19 league outings and have scored 29 League goals so far this season.
The club are nine points adrift of league leaders Lincoln City.
