Charlton Athletic unveil Bob Peeters as their new boss

The former Belgium international takes over from José Riga, who left the club following the expiration of his short-term deal which lasted until the end of the 2013-14 season.

Peeters, 40, has previously taken charge of Cercle Bruuge and KAA Gent and arrives at The Valley after ensuring Waasland-Beveren’s survival in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. 

During his playing career Peeters made 13 appearances for Belgium and scored four goals, including a hat-trick against San Marino in February 2001.

The former striker also played for Lierse, Roda JC Kerkrade and Vitesse Arnhem in Holland and Racing Club Genk in Belgium.

He also played for Millwall between 2003 and 2005.

Peeters takes control of the club following Riga’s brief spell in charge at The Valley.

The former Standard Liege boss guided the Addicks to Championship survival with seven wins and three draws from his 16 games in charge alongside Assistant Head Coach Karel Fraeye, who has also left the club following the end of his contract.

Peeters will work alongside Damien Matthew, Charlton's former Academy manager and current first team coach, while former assistant manager Alex Dyer has also left the club after three-and-a-half years at The Valley.

Dyer arrived at the club shortly after Chris Powell's appointment as manager in January 2011 and the pair went on to guide Charlton to the League One title in 2012 with a record-equalling 101 points, before continuing to work alongside Riga and Fraeye following  Powell’s departure.

Peeters becomes the 23rd man to take permanent charge of Charlton’s first team.
