Chatham Town unveil Scott Lindsey as their new manager

CHATHAM TOWN have appointed Scott Lindsey as their new manager.

 

The 47-year-old left League Two side Forest Green Rovers on 24 September after three years as Mark Cooper’s assistant manager at the Gloucestershire based club.

Lindsey cited “family matters” here in Kent as the reason behind his move from Forest Green Rovers and his appointment as Chatham Town is seen as a coup for the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division leaders.

Prior to that stay at Forest Green Rovers, Lindsey spent 23 months at Swindon Town as their under 18’s manager and was first team coach and manager while at Lincoln City.

Born in Walsall, Lindsey, a midfielder, played for a host of Midlands based clubs before signing for Gillingham for the 1994-95 season, where he made 12 appearances.

Lindsey made roots here in Kent and went on to play non-league football for Dover Athletic, Sittingbourne, Ashford United, Canvey Island, Gravesend & Northfleet, Welling United, Folkestone Invicta, Maidstone United before moving back to the Midlands to play for Tamworth, before finishing his playing career in 2014.

“The club are pleased to announce that Scott Lindsey has been appointed the new manager of Chatham Town FC on Thursday evening,” said a club statement.

“Scott coached the first team at short notice on Thursday night and will be in charge on Saturday for the home game against Fisher.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience both as a player and manager in the Football League and non-league and his development strategy for both players and his beliefs in how the game should be played really stood out when considering who to entrust with the next steps forward for our club.

“We are delighted to be able to move so quickly to secure Scott’s services and we would like to formally welcome him to Chatham Town Football Club.”

Lindsey replaces James Collins, who stepped down as manager last Monday after the club decided to appoint former Arsenal coach Carl Laraman as his director of football behind Collins’ back.

Collins, who took over from Paul Piggott on Wednesday 27 September 2017, when the club were sitting in the bottom four in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division, was in charge for 102 games in all competitions.

Chatham Town celebrated winning 59 wins, drew 17 and lost 26 games during Collins' tenure and they celebrated a cup winning double last season, winning both the Kent Senior Trophy and Challenge Cup.

Chairman Kevin Hake and Laraman took charge of Chatham Town’s 2-1 home win over bottom-of-the-table side Punjab United on Tuesday night and Fisher are under new management themselves as Allan Fenn’s number two, Ajay Ashanike, took over at the helm on Wednesday.

Chatham Town are sitting at the top of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 24 points from 12 games.

Beckenham Town closed the gap on Chatham Town and are now level on points following their 4-1 home win over Crowborough Athletic on Wednesday night, although Jason Huntley’s men have three games in hand.
