Chats part company with O'Brien and Watts

Saturday 15th May 2010
The traditional managerial merry-go-round began on Saturday morning with the news from the Maidstone Road Sports Ground that Chatham Town managerial duo Alex O’Brien and Lew Watts have parted company with the club, writes Mike Green.

The decision comes after the Chats slumped to a disappointing 17th place finish in Ryman League Division One South table, after being in contention for a top six place before Christmas.

But since the Christmas decorations have been taken down, so the Chats form slumped as they lost 15 of the 20 League games they played winning just four.

“This morning, it has been confirmed that first team manager Alex O’Brien and his assistant Lew Watts have left the club,” said a club statement, issued on www.chathamtownfc.net.

Chairman Jeff Talbot added: “Following a difficult first season in management Alex has decided to further his development with another club.

“Chatham Town Football Club extend their thanks to Alex and Lew and wish them well for the future.

“The club are now looking for a suitable replacement management team who can build a team from exciting youth players already with the club, experienced payers from last season's squad and by bringing in new players.”
