Clueless Edusei faces fans backlash for Cup elimination

Friday 05th February 2010
TONBRIDGE ANGELS expect to be thrown out of the Championship Manager Cup next week – after playing an ineligible player in last night’s win over Wealdstone, writes Stephen McCartney.

It is not the first time that much-travelled Akwasi Edusei has been at the centre of such incidents – as the Angels were reinstated back into the Kent Senior Cup a couple of season’s ago after the clueless striker played for both Welling United and Ramsgate in the same competition.

Tonbridge Angels secretary, Charlie Cole, spotted the error last night, as the club played Edusei during last night’s 2-1 home win over Wealdstone in the fourth round.

Edusei played for Margate during their second round win over VCD Athletic at Oakwood earlier in the season.

Tonbridge Angels expect elimination and a fine, and heaps more pressure on the striker from the angry Longmead faithful, who have criticised him in recent weeks for his lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

“I regret to inform you that we played an ineligible player (Akwasi Edusei) in last night’s game against Wealdstone,” Mr Cole said in a club statement.

“I reported the incident myself to the league after trying to input the team sheet into the league system and discovering the error.

“We will appear before an emergency disciplinary hearing at the Ryman League on Monday, but I fear that the outcome can only be one result, expulsion from this year’s competition and a fine.”
