Coleman delighted with his move to Margate

Luke Coleman believes he had made the right move despite dropping down a couple of divisions to sign a contract with Ryman Premier League side Margate.

Coleman scored his second goal for the Thanet side last Saturday, during the 2-1 win over AFC Hornchurch.

His first came in the opening game of the season at Hartsdown Park against Chelmsford City, when he was on loan from Blue Square Premier outfit Ebbsfleet United.

However, against the Urchins, Margate’s new signing showed no nerves when he stepped up to blast his spot kick into the top left corner.

“I’m glad it went in!” Coleman told www.margate-fc.com.  “I was happy enough to take it, and I was just glad to see it go into the back of the net. I’m happy that I’ve helped the side to win today.”

Coleman, who graduated through the youth ranks at Stonebridge Road, then spoke about his move to Margate.

He said: “It would never have been Margate, if I didn’t come here on loan (earlier in the season).

“I have to thank Gravesend (Ebbsfleet) for letting me come out on loan really, I’ve appreciated it so much.

“When I went back, I done well at Gravesend. (But) nothing would have happened if it wasn’t for Margate. I always wanted to come back here.”

He went on to talk about how much support he gets from the senior members of the Margate squad.

“They’re all keen to help the young players as well as themselves. And that was something I wanted to be a part of,” said Coleman.

“It sort of ties in well. I’ve dropped out of full time (football) to go and do law, and so it’s all worked out nicely.

“I had a few offers from a few clubs and this was the one for me, I wanted to come back here.

“When the gaffer offered me (a contract) after he knew I’d left Gravesend, there was no question.

“This is the club I want to be at, and I think it shows in the contract I signed.”
