Collins beats off competition to land striker Powell
Saturday 12th June 2010
ERITH & BELVEDERE manager Micky Collins has made his third summer signing by bringing in much sought after striker Danny Powell, writes Stephen McCartney.
The 23-year-old can count Tonbridge Angels, East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells among his former clubs and Collins is happy to have secured the signature of this accomplished striker from under the noses off a number of higher ranked teams.
"Danny played for Julian (Leigh) and me at Tonbridge Angels and he is a quality striker that can certainly play at a higher level," Collins told www.erithandbelvederefc.co.uk.
"I am so pleased he has signed for us because I know there are several clubs looking to sign him. I am looking forward to working with him again and watching him enjoy his football once more."
Powell himself is looking forward to working with his former boss again.
"I have been asked by other clubs to sign for them but there was always only one person and club I wanted to play for and that's Micky and Erith & Belvedere FC," he said.
"I played with and for Micky at Tonbridge Angels and his record as a striker is fantastic.
"As a forward I know that with his coaching skills he will make me a better player. His approach to football is so professional and knowing the clubs and levels he's played at, you have to look up to him.
"It's great to be signed early because now I can concentrate on my fitness and relax watching the World Cup knowing who I will be playing for next season. I can't wait for pre-season to begin."
The Deres have already brought in Richard Stroud (goalkeeper) and James Lyons (midfielder) from Ryman League outfit Chatham Town.
