Confident Cosgrove warns Croydon of pasting - EXCLUSIVE

Thursday 16th August 2007

Chris Cosgrove, the manager of table topping Erith & Belvedere, has issued Croydon a warning ahead of Saturday’s Kent League clash at Park View Road, writes Stephen McCartney.

The title chasing Deres romped to the top of the table on Tuesday night with a convincing 6-1 win over local rivals Slade Green - scoring their last three goals in the last three minutes.

That followed a 4-1 win at newcomers Holmesdale on the opening day of the season, and Cosgrove believes the Trams are in for the same kind of punishment.

Croydon have bagged just a point from their opening two games of the new season, losing 2-0 at Thamesmead Town on day one, and being held to a “pretty dull” goal-less draw by Holmesdale in midweek.

“Watch out Croydon, that’s all I can say,” Cosgrove said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“If they don’t contain us early and let us play that sort of football, they could be on for the same score, maybe.”

Cosgrove believes the fans will flock to Park View Road on Saturday, to watch some thrilling stuff.

He said: “Winning brings in the fans and we’ve started off in winning ways, haven’t we?”

And Cosgrove revealed that he spends many hours during the week at home plotting Erith & Belvedere’s strategies.

“I look at teams, I study teams and the systems,” he said. “I put in a lot of homework in doors. I don’t just come here and pull it out of the top of my head.

“On the training ground we do a lot of work, our training is based on keep ball, playing football, hitting the right channels and everything, and it’s paying off.

“A lot of work goes into it, it’s not the magic wand job, and now it’s paying off.”

Meanwhile, according to someone who contacted www.kentishfootball.co.uk during the week, Croydon have signed utility player, Jamie Leggett, 21, and flair midfielder, Danny Beszant.

Leggett, who started playing youth football at Thamesmead Town and Bromley, warmed the bench several times last season for Ashford Town, whilst Beszant has recently played for Beckenham Town and Thamesmead Town.
