We go into the Exmouth game as huge underdogs, says Corinthian boss Michael Golding
CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding says his players’ are excited ahead of today’s FA Vase tie at Exmouth Town.
They are in Devon to contest a tie in the Last 32 and are go into the game sitting in ninth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 26 points from 18 league games.
Hosts Exmouth Town go into the game sitting in seventh-place in the South West Peninsula League – which is a level lower – and they have won 12, drawn three and lost five of their league games.
“Going into the game, we have had a nice long break since our last match (winning 3-1 at Croydon), which has allowed us to work very hard on the training pitch, but also given us the time to get a couple of injured players ready for today,” said Golding.
“There has been a real buzz and excitement around the training pitch in the build-up to the game.
“In terms of player availability, Louis Pearce is still suspended, Jamie Taylor has flu and has not travelling with the squad, but Jamie Billings trained all week and has travelled with the squad last night, so will take a late fitness test this morning, to determine his availability. All other players are fit and available for selection.
“Exmouth Town are on a great run of form, having not lost in 12 games, a run that takes them back to the middle of October, so as always we are fully aware of just how tough the game will be.
“They are a good side, with lots of experienced players, which should make for an exciting game with our young squad keen to prove themselves and see if we can equal the clubs best ever performance in this competition.
“I probably sound like a broken record when I say this, but we go into the game as huge underdogs. But what I will say is, we have also only lost once since the middle of October ourselves, so we travel full of confidence in our game plan and our ability to win matches and hopefully with the right mix of hard work and that little bit of luck you need at times, we can continue this cup run.”
