The added incentive of £2,250 in prize money to give back to the club and a home tie in the next round was certainly reiterated to the players during training on Thursday, says Corinthian boss Michael Golding
CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding says his side have had a solid start to the season.
The Gay Dawn Farm outfit are in third-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table after beating Crowborough Athletic 3-2 on their travels on the opening day of the season and being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Hollands & Blair on Tuesday night.
“We have had a solid start to the season, however we definitely feel as though we dropped two points on Tuesday night,” said Golding, who guided the club to a runners-up berth last season.
“Having said that, both Crowborough and Hollands & Blair will probably feel as though they could have got something, more out of the game, so four points is probably a fair return so far.”
Corinthian hold home advantage over Eastbourne based Little Common in The FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tomorrow.
Little Common have opened their Southern Combination Premier Division campaign with a 4-1 win at Horsham YMCA before losing 2-1 at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe three days later and sit in eighth-place in their league.
“We have had Little Common watched twice and they have continued their form from the end of last season into the start of this season, with a comfortable opening day win, before narrowly losing on Tuesday to a last minute goal,” said Golding.
“They are a well organised, attacking side, so it promises to be a good game between us.
“The FA Cup is the biggest domestic cup competition in the world and to play and manage in it is a great opportunity for the players, something they will never forget.
“Not that the players need it, but the added incentive of £2,250 in prize money to give back to the club and a home tie in the next round was certainly reiterated to the players during training on Thursday.”
The winners will be at home to Isthmian League South East Division Three Bridges in the Preliminary Round on Saturday 24 August.
