The draw has thrown up tough opposition and Canterbury will be a stern test for my team, says Corinthian boss Michael Golding

CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding says his side have been handed tough opposition in The FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tomorrow.

 

The Gay Dawn Farm club welcome their Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division rivals Canterbury City at the first hurdle.

Corinthian kicked-off their league campaign with a 4-1 home defeat to much-fancied Chatham Town, but bounced back by winning 2-1 at Tunbridge Wells in midweek and sit in fourteenth-place in the table.

Canterbury City, meanwhile, sit in tenth-place, having started with a 5-2 win over Rusthall, upon their return to Salters Lane in Faversham, but Ben Smith saw his side lose 5-2 at Chatham Town in midweek.

“The draw has thrown up tough opposition and Canterbury will be a stern test for my team,” said Golding.

“Ben Smith has added well over the summer to his squad and Canterbury are my outside pick to break into the top four this season and mount a title challenge in the league campaign. 

“Our league matches last season saw just the one goal and at the end of the season only two points and one league place separated the teams, so based on this I am expecting another close game.

“Our match at Tunbridge Wells on Tuesday was a slightly better performance than our opening day defeat against Chatham and on the balance of play and chances created, I definitely felt as though we deserved to win.

“Tunbridge Wells is a tough place to go to, so to come home with the three points was all the more pleasing for me and the team.

“The Chatham game was disappointing as although they were far too strong for us on the day, we underperformed and didn't hit the standards I expect from the team. That being said, Chatham played well and will take some stopping this season.”
