There's no pressure on us, Sheppey are my favourites to win the league and they have to go and get out of this division this year, says Corinthian boss Michael Golding

CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding insists all the pressure is on Sheppey United when the two sides lock horns at Gay Dawn Farm this coming Saturday

Corinthian extended their 100% league record to seven games after securing a 4-0 win at Welling Town at the weekend, although two goals inside stoppage time did give the scoreline a flattering look.

Corinthian sit proudly at the top of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 21 points.

Chatham Town – who thrashed Beckenham Town 5-1 at Eden Park Avenue at the weekend – are in second-place with 18 points, while Tunbridge Wells are in third-place on 17 points.

Ernie Batten’s Sheppey United side are in fourth-place on 16 points but with a game in hand.

Sheppey United are unbeaten in all 12 of their games in all competitions and thrashed Molesey 6-0 at Holm Park in The FA Vase Second Qualifying Round at the weekend.

Batten also takes his side to Vanarama National League South side Eastbourne Borough in a behind-closed-doors FA Cup Third Qualifying Round tie tomorrow night.

“Looking forward to it,” said Golding.

“Sheppey are my favourites to win the league, they’ve built up a very, very good squad, not entirely happy with it, they’ve tried to poach (goalkeeper) Aiden Prall off us, they put in a seven-dayer within 12 hours of us losing in the Vase and throwing loads of money at him, so those kind of things that we’ll enjoy.

“There’s no pressure on us, we’re good at home, we know that.

“Sheppey have to get promotion. Sheppey have to go and get out of this division this year with the size of the club and it’s a great club.

“You look at the infrastructure there and the fan base that they’ve got and the financial investment they’re putting in, there’s no pressure on us on Saturday.

“We can go and enjoy the occasion and go and try and cause another upset.

“We’ve got a little bit of a target on our shoulders because we’ve won seven out of seven and we’ll have to deal with that but we’ll train Tuesday and Thursday and we’ll come up with a game plan that will nullify them and we’ll try to exploit their weaknesses and we’ll go from there.”
