FA Vase Fifth Round Draw: In all honesty, all the teams at this stage of the competition are there for a reason and will be strong, so being at home was the most important aspect, says Corinthian boss Michael Golding

Monday 13th January 2020

CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding has learnt who his side will face in the last sixteen of The Buildbase FA Vase.

Corinthian caused a shock when they came away from much-fancied Chatham Town with a 2-1 extra-time win at the weekend, courtesy of two goals from midfielder Oscar Housego.

Corinthian will have home advantage over Sporting Khalsa in the next round, the Gay Dawn Farm clash in Longfield kicking off at 15:00 on Saturday 8 February 2020.

Sporting Khalsa are currently in second-place in the Midland League Premier Division table with 40 points from their 20 league games, a point behind Newark Flowserve.

Ian Rowe’s side beat Kirkley & Pakefield 2-0 at their Noose Lane ground in Willenhall at the weekend.

“We are naturally pleased to have a home draw at this stage of the competition but appreciate just how tough the match will be,” said Golding.

“In all honesty, all the teams at this stage of the competition are there for a reason and will be strong, so being at home was the most important aspect for me.

“Sporting Khalsa have good pedigree in this competition and are competing well at the top of their league but if you look at the run we have had so far in the Vase, we have not had any favourable draws at any stage, so have had to perform at a high-level throughout.

“We will go into the game with a clear game plan and if we perform to the levels I know we can do, then we will give ourselves a chance of going through.”

Chatham Town goalkeeper Dan Ellis bravely carried on after suffering a broken leg during the first half because Scott Lindsey was without his second-choice goalkeeper Jordan Carey, who was playing for Isthmian League South East Division side VCD Athletic on a dual-registration deal.

“We would like to wish Dan all the best in his recovery following his unfortunate injury during the match at the weekend,” added Golding.

Derek Hares’ Deal Town side were held to a 1-1 extra-time draw at home to Binfield at the weekend and the replay at the Hellenic League side will take place at Stubbs Lane on Saturday, 18 January (15:00).

The winners of that tie will travel to Northern League Consett AFC.

Terry Mitchell’s side beat Lutterworth Town 3-1 at home at the weekend.

Stowmarket Town, who ended Glebe's interest with a 3-0 win at Greens Meadow at the weekend, travel to their Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League rivals Wroxham.
