The start of the season has not been good enough but we are hopeful we have now turned a corner, says Corinthian boss Michael Golding

CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding says his side are expecting a tough game against Cray Valley tomorrow.

Corinthian are in a lowly thirteenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected three wins, four draws and six defeats in the league.

Former Corinthian manager James Collins brings his Millers’ to Gay Dawn Farm sitting in the top-six with 22 points from 11 games.

Corinthian go into the game on the back of their 2-0 win at Alton in The Buildbase FA Vase First Round last weekend.

“The past two weeks have seen two positive results in cup competitions and the cups have been a welcome relief from an inconsistent start to our league campaign,” said Golding.

“The Vase match at Alton was pleasing as it was only the second clean sheet we have kept this season, whilst also creating numerous chances against an organised and disciplined Alton side.

“The match tomorrow sees the return of former Hoops manager James Collins and his Cray Valley side who have started the season well and are a team I would expect to be challenging for honours at the end of the season.

“We know just how tough tomorrow will be, but after a good week’s training and a little bit of momentum from the cup matches, we go into the match with a clear game plan and confidence within the side to achieve a positive result – if we execute the game plan accurately.”

The Gay Dawn Farm club are renowned of blooding young players and working without a budget.

Golding said: “We will continue to blood young players and give them an opportunity in senior football, whilst remaining competitive and we are working hard as a collective to start climbing the league table.

“The start of the season has not been good enough but we are hopeful we have now turned a corner and will look to kick start our league campaign, starting tomorrow.”
