CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding says his side must focus on their bread and butter at Welling Town on Wednesday night.

The Hoops reached the Quarter-Finals of The Buildbase FA Vase for the first time after beating Sporting Khalsa 3-0 at Gay Dawn Farm at the weekend and the club are getting close to a dream day out at Wembley Stadium in May.


Michael Golding has taken amateur club Corinthian to the Quarter-Finals of The Buildbase FA Vase.

Alexander Jack Billings, Oscar Housego and Luke Tanner scored the goals to beat the Midland League side.

“The win over Khalsa for us was fully deserved and in all honestly could and perhaps should have been more, if we had taken our chances,” said Golding.

“I felt that, other than maybe a 10 minute period either side of half-time, we completely dominated the game and were worthy winners.

“I must add the management and players from Sporting Khalsa were very gracious in defeat and I would like to wish them all the best in the remainder of their league campaign and I am sure they will go on to have a successful season.”

The Quarter-Final Draw was made at lunchtime today and Corinthian have been handed a home tie against Leighton Town.

The Bedfordshire side are currently in eleventh-place in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division table, having collected 33 points from 21 league games.

Jointly-managed by Joe Sweeney and Paul Copson, Leighton Town came away from Bradford Town with a 3-1 win at the weekend.

“Naturally we are pleased at being at home but again we'll be under no illusions at just how tough the match against Leighton will be,” Golding said ahead of the Gay Dawn Farm clash on Saturday 29 February (15:00).

“They had a convincing victory at the weekend against Bradford Town, who are currently top of the same league that the favourites for the Vase, Plymouth Parkway, play in, so this is an incredibly tough draw and anyone suggesting anything other than this is wildly of the mark.”

Corinthian are currently in third-place in the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 43 points from 21 games.

They can close the gap on leaders Beckenham Town to a couple of points should they come away from Welling Town with a win on Wednesday night.

Danny Wakeling’s side are ninth in the table, with 28 points from their 20 league games and Golding is keen to continue to keep their promotion bid on track.

“Wednesday night is very much back to business and the bread and butter of the league campaign,” said Golding, whose side are an amateur outfit.

“Welling beat us on our own pitch at the start of the season, so we will be going all out to avenge that defeat and close the gap on Beckenham at the top of the table.

“Welling have picked up four points from their past two games, following a run of defeats, but we know just too well that they are a side full of quality and if we do not turn up and apply ourselves correctly and do all the things well that we did so well on Saturday, then we will leave Bayliss Avenue disappointed.”
