Cray Wanderers chairman Gary Hillman to answer questions about new Stadium at book launch

Sunday 23rd October 2011
CRAY WANDERERS invite supporters to hear about the club’s plans to build their new stadium at a book launch in the local area next month, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Ryman Premier League club launch “Forever Amber,” the book that tells the story of the club’s 150 years’ history from 1860 to 2010 at Waterstone’s, Nugent Way, Cray Avenue on Sunday 6 November, between 11am to 2pm.

Chairman Gary Hillman, first team manager Ian Jenkins and many Cray Wanderers players’ past and present will be there to meet supporters and to enjoy hearing any memories that supporters have of Cray Wanderers, the second oldest football club in the world and the oldest in London.

Book publisher Mike Floate and author Jerry Dowlen will also be attending the prestigious event.

The club have played at Bromley’s Hayes Lane ground since moving away from Oxford Road, Sidcup in 1999 and are planning to return home in St Paul’s Cray in three years’ time.

“Cray Wanderers want to build a new football stadium and sports and leisure centre at Sandy Lane, St Paul’s Cray in 2014, to bring the club back to its original roots in the Crays,” said Mr Dowlen.

“You will be able to see a display of the architects’ plans for the Sandy Lane site, and you can ask Gary Hillman all about this exciting new venture that is hoped to become a big benefit for the Crays community.”

Meanwhile, the club were knocked out of The FA Carlsberg Trophy by fellow Ryman Premier League rivals Lewes yesterday. Tommy Whitnell scored for the Wands with his eleventh goal of the season, but they couldn’t prevent their second loss of the season at The Dripping Pan, as Lewes scored twice.
