Crisis club Holmesdale bring in Davies
Wednesday 02nd December 2009
HOLMESDALE have today confirmed that Gary Davies has replaced Billy Hughes as their new manager, writes Stephen McCartney.
Hughes decided to quit the troubled Bromley based Bulmers Cider Kent League club on Saturday, the day when the club’s entire playing squad decided to walk out of the club and forfeit their home game against Deal Town.
Davies, who was coach at Sussex County League side Lingfield up to six weeks ago, has decided to keep Ross Mitchell as the club’s goalkeeping coach, although he brings in former Erith & Belvedere pair, Tony Fanning (assistant manager) and Keith Nadjowski (fitness coach).
A statement issued by the club on www.holmesdalefc.co.uk today said: “All three have a wealth of experience at Kent League level and above. We are confident that these appointments will bring stability to the Football Club during this difficult time and ultimately long term success.”
The statement also thanked Hughes for his efforts, whilst at the club.
“We would like to put on record our thanks to Billy for his commitment and the professional way in which he conducted himself during his time at the club.
“We wish Billy every success for the future in whatever he decides to do.”
Holmesdale, who travel to much-improved side Sporting Bengal United on Saturday, are presently sitting third-from-bottom in the Bulmers Cider Kent League table, but have off-the-pitch concerns to worry about.
But the club insist these problems will be solved soon.
“Holmesdale Football Club is working tirelessly to rectify the well publicised off field issues and significant progress has already been made in relation to these.
“We are currently in the process of sourcing and acquiring furniture for the clubhouse and this will be in place in the near future.
“The problem with the generator has been identified and once the parts have arrived work can start on fixing the problem. Although an exact date cannot be set for the floodlights to be operative again, we are confident that this is not a long term problem.
“We would also like to thank Greenwich Borough FC for their understanding and continued cooperation throughout this process.”
Meanwhile, tenants Greenwich Borough have confirmed that their home game against Erith & Belvedere will go ahead at Oakley Road on Saturday, kicking off at 2pm.
