Daish splashes the cash on Gash

Friday 25th July 2008

BOSS Liam Daish has moved swiftly to sign prolific Cambridge City forward Michael Gash to reinforce Ebbsfleet United’s strike force, on the eve of their Kent Senior Cup final against Cray Wanderers.

Daish's move in the transfer market has been assisted by the boost his playing budget has received from donations made to the club in a recent supporters' initiative.

MyFC member Tom Baker inspired 1,000 supporters from across the world to each donate £20 or more to the club's playing budget to cover transfers and wages this season.

With the target successfully achieved, the money will be handed over to the club at their opening Blue Square Premier game at Stonebridge Road on August 9th.

German-born Gash trialled for the Fleet on their recent West Country tour, and after taking a close look at the hit man, who scored 26 Blue Square South goals for City last season, Daish swooped to bring the 21 year old to Stonebridge Road on a two-year contract.

Daish beat off interest from Conference Premier newcomers Kettering Town to secure Gash, who also spent time at Oxford United and Weymouth on trial.

Gash is a product of the Cambridge City academy, and returned to the club after a period with neighbours Cambridge United.

“I am delighted that we have managed to bring Michael to the club” Daish told www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk today.

“He enjoyed his time with us on trial and he is a proven goal scorer. He is the right type of player for us at the right age.

“He chose Ebbsfleet over other options and we look forward to working with him to prepare him for full time Blue Square Premier football.”

New CEO David Davis added: "The total deal to bring Michael Gash to Ebbsfleet United is worth £20,000, and the player's wages will fall within the weekly budget already set by MyFootballClub members.

“This transfer was made possible by the additional funds in the playing budget which were raised through supporters’ donations.

“This is a brilliant example of how MyFC's international network of members can work with the club's long term supporters to help strengthen the squad.”
