Darts boss Burman signs quality midfielder Berquez

Wednesday 09th June 2010
DARTFORD manager Tony Burman continues building his squad for Blue Square Bet South football next season by signing midfielder Ollie Berquez, formerly of Chelmsford City, writes Stephen McCartney.

The 28-year-old graduated through the youth academy at Ipswich Town, but made no appearances for the first team and joined Chelmsford City in 1997.

He spent four years at the Essex club, winning promotion with them from the Southern League, before joining Dagenham & Redbridge in 2001.

Following an unsuccessful spell at the club he left and went on to play for a number of non-league teams, including Canvey Island, Stevenage Borough and Woking.

However, in May 2007, Berquez left Woking for Maldon Town before re-signing for Chelmsford City, who were managed by former Canvey Island boss Jeff King at the time and put pen to paper for the Darts last night.

Burman, who is preparing for Conference South football for the very first time, told www.dartfordfconline.com, “Berquez is a very experienced midfield player at Conference South and Conference levels, and I’m delighted to be adding another quality player to the squad.”

Chelmsford City, meanwhile, have confirmed the signing of winger Anthony Finn from Dartford's new league rivals, Welling United.
