Darts look to have the edge over their main rivals' - EXCLUSIVE
Dartford, who have won their last six league games, can celebrate their first anniversary at Princes Park by climbing to the top of the Ryman League Division One North table for the first time on Tuesday night, writes Stephen McCartney.
Second placed, joint-leaders, Edgware Town arrive at Princes Park on Tuesday night, and if the Darts collect another win, then it’s the Kent side that rise to the summit - a position that Darts boss Tony Burman wants at the end of the season.
“It’s a game we want to be involved in,” Burman said, speaking EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“It’s a home game against a team who are joint top at the moment. If we win the game we will be top of the league for the anniversary but that’s not the be all and end all - what is, is being top at the end of April,” Burman explained.
“We want to be in the position in April and we want to get promoted.”
But he added: “It will be nice to be top of the league for the next few weeks.”
Strikers Brendon Cass and Jay May were both on target in Dartford’s 2-0 win at Wingate & Finchley yesterday.
Cass (15 goals) and May have scored 23 goals between them as Dartford look to romp towards promotion into the Ryman Premier League.
“It’s a good result, we had two away games, one last Tuesday against Tilbury and (yesterday against) Wingate, two teams who were undefeated at home this season,” said Burman.
“We’ve gone to both games with the right attitude and the belief we would win the game, and it’s happened, and it’s two good results.”
With the best strike partnership around, Burman, however, is aware that Edgware arrive at Princes Park with a mean defence, having conceded just four goals during their first eleven league games.
He said: “Edgware must be a decent side being top, and they’ve not conceded too many goals so defensively their solid.
“It will be a good game and hopefully we should come through it.”
And he added: “We’re at home and we want to play well at home and make it difficult as we can for the opposition.
“Hopefully we can do that Tuesday night. We know it’s going to be tough but if we play well and to our potential we will be very hard to beat - I’m looking forward to it.”
Midfielder Mark Green, meanwhile, has been ruled out for at least ten days due to the hand injury that he sustained during training last Thursday.
“His hand is very swollen and will be a week to ten days before he can consider even doing any training,” explained Burman.
Central defender Richard Avery (rib injury) will also be missing, but full-back Tommy Osborne is expected to be involved, having come through a reserve game yesterday.
