Dave Smith takes over as Lydd Town's new manager
Wednesday 14th November 2012
LYDD TOWN have confirmed that former Bromley Green manager Dave Smith has taken over as their manager.Lydd Town suffered a deflating 5-0 defeat away to unbeaten league leaders Phoenix Sports last weekend.
The Lydders are presently in eleventh-place in the Kent Invicta League table, with four wins and two draws from their 13 games.
Phoenix Sports, who are jointly-managed by Steve O’Boyle and Tony Beckingham, are six points clear of Bearsted and the two sides lock horns in a top-of-the-table clash in Barnehurst on Saturday.
But Lydd Town manager, Dave Johncock, has explained why he has felt the need to step down from his role and Smith, who led Bromley Green to the Kent County League Premier title last season, has taken over the reins.
“A couple of months ago I asked Dave Smith to join me down at Lydd Town,” explained Johncock.
“My time is becoming increasingly more limited and I felt the need to pull in some extra resource to help manage the team and take the club forward.
“Dave had left Bromley Green and with his previous Lydd connections, I thought he would be ideal to get on board.
“Dave has agreed to be joint manager with me but realistically my time will mean that I will end up assisting and being Dave’s number two.
“I haven’t got the time during the week to communicate to players and I’m struggling to plan effectively for Saturday’s and so with this in mind, I feel I can’t doing something at 100% then don’t do it!
“Dave has had a few weeks to settle in and now is time for him to have more of a say. He’s great for the club and the right man to take the club forward.
“I’m remaining at the club but will look to work more as an assistant and plan and do the training sessions. This will be better use of my time than organising and recruiting players.”
The Lydders welcome tenth-placed Woodstock Park on Saturday.
