DEAL TOWN coach Steve King says the club will continue to move forward in a sensible and sustainable way.

 

Derek Hares’ side are sitting in fourth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 27 points from their 11 league games.

The club are only a point behind joint-leaders Glebe, Sheppey United and Erith Town.

“It is fair to say that it has been a very pleasing start to the season,” said King, in a statement on the club website.

“To have won nine of our first 11 league games and have kept clean sheets in eight of those is really pleasing.

“Our pre-season results showed that the squad was in a good place but it has been brilliant to see that transfer into the start of the league campaign.

“As has been said numerous times we are building for the long-term with the squad and this start shows that progress is continuing to be made.

“We are building on the excellent FA Vase run of 2019-20 and although last season only lasted 11 games we did have the best defensive record in the league at the time.

“Now is not the time to become complacent and we will continue to work hard over the coming weeks and months.

“It is inevitable that we will have a blip at some stage, every team does, but we will continue to strive for that level of consistency that will keep us in the upper reaches of the league.

“Although we only added three players in the summer, it was a massive bonus not to lose anyone.  The players are very loyal and that means that we have been able to build year-on-year and have developed a brilliant team spirit.

“The three players that have come in, Tom Chapman, Rene Rivera and Max Niblett, have all added extra quality to the side.

“We have an exciting squad at the minute who are defensively organised but also have flair and pace in attack and it is always our aim to entertain the supporters.

“When I first came to the club in January 2015 the home crowds were around the 50 mark. So far this season we have averaged around 250 and the ground has been buzzing. Hopefully, we will continue to see our crowds continue to rise.

“Together with the board, we will continue to do everything we can to keep moving the club forward.  We will always do this in a sensible and sustainable way but there is always the desire to keep moving us forward and making the town proud.”

Deal Town, meanwhile, make the trip to Ashford on Saturday to play Kennington in the Kent Senior Trophy First Round.

Dan Scorer’s side are in eighth-place in the league table with 19 points from 12 games, going into the Homelands clash.

The two sides will lock horns again seven days later, this time in The FA Vase First Round, at The Charles Sports Ground in Deal.
