Everyone will tell you how much of a buzz you get from being involved in this great competition and we are no different, says Deal Town boss Steve King
DEAL TOWN manager Steve King says he is looking forward to pitting his wits against Three Bridges in The FA Cup Preliminary Round tomorrow.
Deal Town are in second-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, with a 100% record in the league after wins over Glebe (3-1), Punjab United (2-1) and Canterbury City (3-1).
King’s men needed a replay to beat Egham Town in the Extra Qualifying Round of The FA Cup. They were held to a 2-2 draw at home before going to Surrey and coming back with a 1-0 win.
King takes his side to Three Bridges in the Preliminary Round tomorrow, a side that ended Whitstable Town’s interest at the first hurdle, with a 3-0 victory.
Jamie Crellien’s side opened their Isthmian League South East Division campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Sevenoaks Town last weekend and bounced back with a 2-0 home win over VCD Athletic in midweek.
Three Bridges go into the tie sitting in seventh-place in their league.
“We have been pleased with the start to the season. It is always good to get points on the board early so we are pleased to have won three out of three,” said King.
“We have not always been at our very best but we have found a way to win and that is always important. The win away at Egham in The FA Cup replay last round was a big win for us.
“Tuesday’s game against Canterbury was a frustrating one as we missed a huge number of chances in the first half and were a little bit sloppy out of possession which meant we found ourselves behind at half-time.
“However, the boys responded well in the second half and scored three good goals in front of a crowd of over 400.”
Looking ahead to their FA Cup tie, the Deal Town boss said: “We’re expecting a really tough game against strong opponents. Three Bridges have had a good start to the season winning their two home games without conceding and running title challengers Sevenoaks close in their other game.
“We are looking forward to pitting our wits against a team from the league above and after a couple of difficult surfaces to play on recently the boys are looking forward to being on a nice pitch at Three Bridges.
“Everyone will tell you how much of a buzz you get from being involved in this great competition and we are no different. Everyone in the dressing room is looking forward to the game.
“We have prepared fully for the game as we do for all of our opponents and are aware of the challenge ahead. We have worked hard on our plan since Tuesday’s game and we will be doing our best to implement it tomorrow.”
