Deres pull off Farley transfer coup

Following last Saturday’s pre-season defeat to Maidstone United, Erith & Belvedere’s joint-manager, Chris Cosgrove signed up a further eight players as he prepares for the club’s Kent League challenge.

Speaking after the match, Cosgrove expressed his delight at the performance against last season’s Ryman League Division One South champions, and the capture of his latest signings.

“I thought the lads did brilliantly,” he told www.erithandbelvederefc.co.uk “They can hold their heads high after that performance.

“We were more than a match for Maidstone and it all bodes well for the future.

“We still have a couple of weeks until the season itself starts, but we are on the right lines, and I for one, can’t wait for the season to start.”

On the latest batch of players to sign Kent League forms, Cosgrove said: “We’ve managed to pull off a bit of a coup in signing John Farley (from Dartford).

“He’s a proven defender and will add a bit of experience in the back line.

“We have also signed striker Neil Day (from Cray Valley), midfielder Chris Perifimon (Haringey Borough) and a goalkeeper (from VCD Athletic), who we’ll need no introduction to Kent League followers, Grant Wallis.

“I’m delighted to have signed these guys (and) I would like to welcome them all to the club and hope they enjoy their time with us.”

Mark Nougher, Matt Johnson, Adrian Deane and Mitchell Crawley have re-signed for the Park View Road club - pleasing Cosgrove.

He added: “We’ve also secured the signatures of a few more of last season’s squad and I know our supporters will be chuffed to bits at the quality of squad we are putting together.”

But Lew Watts, 33, who was expected to sign for the Deres, opted to sign for Kent League rivals, Thamesmead Town last night.
