Dover Athletic appoint two new board members

Monday 11th May 2009
DOVER ATHLETIC are delighted to welcome Scott Rutherford and Frank Clarke to the club's board of directors, writes Justin Allen.Mr Rutherford is a professional finance director with wide experience in industry from motorsport to deep-sea fishing - and has been a qualified chartered accountant for 20 years.

He also used to take on the day-to-day operation of the Hibernian Supporters' Club - while living within a stone's throw from the Scottish club's stadium.

Scott and his family now live in Canterbury and he is chair of the Board of Governors of Barham Primary School.
His passion for football extends to regular visits to Easter Road, home of Hibs, and also as a card-carrying member of the Tartan Army to every obscure location Scotland may find themselves, which last year included Georgia, Macedonia and Iceland.

Delighted Whites chairman Jim Parmenter, speaking to www.doverathletic.com today said: "Scott will initially oversee the implementation of the club's new in-house financial systems and structure, which will be so important to achieve in the much more professional league which we are moving into.

"Also the sums involved become much larger and it is important to have a safe pair of hands and wise head monitoring the financial situation."

Frank, meanwhile, needs no introducing to supporters as he is already a Crabble legend, having been the club's physio and club secretary.

He is renowned for having a wide understanding of football administration, league structures and the FA.

He now joins the board and will combine his role of club secretary with that of company secretary.

Mr Parmenter added: "We have seen how important admin matters are at Conference level, by the number of teams that have been deducted points for errors in administration

"It is important that these matters are given the priority they deserve. Frank's appointment reflects this situation."

The Whites chairman did not rule out further additions to the board.

And he told doverathletic.com: "As we move forward into a much more professional environment, it's my job as chairman to ensure that the club has the right professionals in place to take it forward and upwards.

"I am currently talking to two people who are interested in coming on board to invest in the club's future and understand there may be further parties interested who have not yet formally contacted me."

Meanwhile, there may be a couple of members of the current board, who will be stepping down after playing a big part in the club's success.

And the chairman wants to place on record his debt of gratitude.

He said: "Some of my colleagues may be stepping down from the board and I'd like to thank them for their fantastic efforts over the last four years. I know some of them will remain closely associated with the club."
