Dover Athletic closing in on transfer targets

Sunday 10th May 2009
JIM PARMENTER has been working overtime as he looks to agree deals with Andy Hessenthaler's top summer targets, writes Justin Allen.

The Dover Athletic chairman confirmed this weekend that he is at an advanced stage in talks with a Blue Square Premier player and could have a deal in place by "Monday or Tuesday".

Also one of the club's current players is close to agreeing a new contract - and hopefully should commit at the start of this week.

Mr Parmenter, speaking to www.doverathletic.com  yesterday said, "We're very excited about the new season and it really is all systems go at the moment to get Hess's top targets to Crabble.

"I hope to have one signed up early in the week - but of course you can never be sure until the ink is dry on the contract - but we're at an advanced stage."

Another Blue Square Premier player, who has played more than 500 games in the Football League, and captained a League side, is also at an advanced stage in talks with the club.

But the Whites chairman does not expect to wrap up that deal until the end of the week.

He said: "We're working hard on making these deals happen. This club means business - and there's no way we want to stop our momentum now we've got a second promotion.

"This club is going to be in Blue Square South to win it! We're going to be giving it the best shot - and I, for one, can't wait for the new season to start."
