ADAM BIRCHALL was at Wembley Stadium as a special guest of the FA to showcase his stunning goalscoring exploits in the FA Cup, writes Justin Allen.
The Dover Athletic striker was the competition's top scorer with 11 goals and was interviewed by TV presenter Jake Humphrey at the launch of the FA Cup's new three-year sponsorship deal with Budweiser.

Jake introduced Adam by saying: "When you think of the top scorer of the FA Cup, you think Wayne Rooney or Carlos Tevez - but it was actually this man - Adam Birchall, of Dover Athletic."

Adam got a very warm round of applause by the nation's top media and prominent names in football, such as Sir Trevor Brooking, Ray Wilkins, Gary Pallister and FA chairman David Bernstein.

Also in the crowd watching - and sitting next to Adam in the audience during the event - was legendary funny-man Frank Carson and Dover Athletic website editor Justin Allen.

Birch said: "It was a cracking day - and so nice to visit Wembley for the first time. To see people like Ray Wilkins, Sir Trevor Brooking and Gary Pallister was a real honour.

"Ray even came up to me and shook me by the hand later on and said 'well done on your achievement', which was really nice of him."

Adam told the audience: "We went on an incredible run. It was not just about me personally, but making history for the club. Dover Athletic only reached the first round once in its history - and we got to the third round."

He added - to roars of laughter: "We even got to fly on a plane to Huddersfield!"

The 26-year-old not  only scooped the Blue Square Bet South Golden Boot award at the league's annual meeting - but he was also voted the division's player-of-the season.
