Dover Athletic unveil Ian Hendon as their new manager

DOVER ATHLETIC have today appointed Ian Hendon as their new manager.

The former Barnet boss joins the club on an initial one-year contract with a view to extending the deal.

And Whites chairman Jim Parmenter is also pleased to confirm that Nicky Southall will stay on at Crabble as Hendon's number two, in the role of player/assistant-manager.

Hendon, 38, started his playing career at Spurs and is a former England Under-21 international. His other clubs include Portsmouth, Leyton Orient and Sheffield Wednesday and he also won the Conference as a player with Barnet, whom he managed until the end of the 2009-10 season.

A delighted Jim Parmenter said: "Ian is a real Mr 100 per cent. He's a very good up and coming young manager who got Barnet off to a flyer at the start of last season. He has lots of experience and will be bringing lots of great contacts with him to Crabble.

"He's the sort of man, like Andy Hessenthaler before him, who gives it everything and demands the same high standards of his players. We're thrilled to have him on board."

The chairman is also pleased that the new boss will be teaming up with Crabble favourite Nicky Southall, who many thought would follow Andy Hessenthaler to Gillingham.
