Dulwich Hamlet continue tradition of supporting local causes as fans pay what they like for Worthing visit

DULWICH HAMLET have given fans the opportunity to pay what they like when Worthing visit Champion Hill on Saturday.

The Ryman Premier League club have said that every penny raised after match day costs will be donated to charity.

The beneficiaries will be the official Dulwich Hamlet charity partner for this season, Football Beyond Borders, who are a much-respected South London based organisation, who mentor youngsters through education via the medium of football, and the Dog Kennel Hill adventure playground.

“This is the third annual pay-what-you-like match, instigated in 2014 and was such a success, that it has been held each season since.

Chairman Liam Hickey said: “The local community support us all year through the turnstiles, this is our little way of paying them back in kind.

“In the olden days our club founder “Pa” Wilson made it a cornerstone of the club to support local causes and we are merely continuing that tradition.”

Mishi Morath, the football committee member for community initiatives, added: “The beauty of a game like this is that it helps local causes dear to us and it always gives locals the opportunity to support The Hamlet while supporting local charities at the same time.”

George Parnavelas, who is the committee lead for schools liaisons, said: “As a club we’re proud that all under thirteens get in free at our matches anyway, but this is a great opportunity for primary school kids to bring their older brothers and sisters, as well as their mums and dads to a game too, just for a donation to two local charities.”

In the past the day has been such a success, as many fans pay the ordinary admission price of £10 for adults, as well as putting donations into the buckets that are shaken inside the ground, which enables a sizable donation can be handed over.
