Dulwich "extremely confident" that showdown with Dover will go ahead

Dulwich Hamlet are “extremely confident” that tomorrow’s Ryman League Division One South promotion showdown against Dover Athletic will go ahead as planned, writes Stephen McCartney.

Today’s Nationwide Conference South game between Fisher Athletic and Dorchester Town was called off an hour before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch at Champion Hill.

But Dulwich Hamlet officials are confident that tomorrow’s game, which kick’s off at 2pm, will go ahead.

Dulwich can go on top of the table on goal difference if they win against a Dover Athletic side, that will be playing under caretaker manager Terry White, for the very first time.

The Whites will leapfrog Dartford, whose game at Molesey was one of many either postponed or abandoned today, into third place if they win in south London.

But Dulwich officials feel not having a game played on their pitch today, will assure tomorrow’s match will go ahead.

And with no other game taking place in the area, and this game causing plenty of interest, Dulwich Hamlet can expect a crowd of nearer 1,000 for Dover’s visit.

A statement issued by Dulwich on their website www.dulwichhamlet.fc.co.uk today, said: “Paradoxically this (postponement) greatly increases the chances of Sunday's main event going ahead as the ground staff will be unhindered by the need to repair any damage to the playing surface caused by our lodgers and their guests.

“With protection being put in place for the vulnerable areas of the pitch and the ground staff in place to work on the pitch overnight if necessary, Dulwich Hamlet are extremely confident that the game will go ahead.

“As a precaution the match referee will be inspecting the pitch tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 9.00am and as soon as a decision is made one way or the other, the website will be updated.”
