Dulwich Hamlet launches their first Women's side after merging with AFC Phoenix

DULWICH HAMLET have announced that they have merged with AFC Phoenix to form a women’s side.

The club will be playing in the fifth-tier of the Women’s game and season ticket holders can watch all London and South East Regional Premier Division games for free.

Other fans can attend games at Champion Hill for £4 (adults) and £2 (concessions), with under 13’s getting in for free.

AFC Phoenix were established in 2010 and were formed on Clapham Common.

All of their committee members are either ex-players, coaches or current players.

The club have been self-sustained until now, however after successful meetings with Dulwich Hamlet, a merger was agreed, paving the way for the first fully fledged Dulwich Hamlet Women’s side.

Captain Brittany Saylor told the clubs website: “We are thrilled to become a part of the Dulwich family.

“The club ethos and community support along with the talent and dedication of our girls is a definite recipe of success.

“We’re looking forward to continuing our accomplishments under the Dulwich name.”

Dulwich Hamlet director Tom Cullen added: “It’s never felt right to me as a fan of the club that we didn’t have female representation on the pitch, so when we got back to Champion Hill we made it a priority to fix the imbalance and I’m absolutely delighted to have been able to find such a talented and dedicated team to wear the famous pink and blue.”

The Women’s side will be managed by Farouk Menia and Jack Bada and four home pre-season friendlies have been arranged.

Leyton Orient (Sunday 21 July, 14:00); AFC Wimbledon (Sunday 28 July, 14:00); Crystal Palace (Sunday 4 August, 14:00) and Crawley (Sunday 11 August, 14:00), will be their first opponents.
