I am very proud and honoured to be leading my side out in the next round of The FA Vase, says Erith & Belvedere boss Owen Jones
ERITH & BELVEDERE manager Owen Jones says he is honoured to be leading his side out in The FA Vase First Round on Saturday.
The Deres humiliated lower-league side Oakwood 9-2 at Park View Road in the last round and travel to their league rivals Welling Town on Saturday.
Danny Wakeling has guided the Boots to fifth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having banked 17 points from their nine games.
Erith & Belvedere celebrated winning promotion after finishing runners-up to Welling Town in the First Division last term and the Deres are currently in thirteenth-place in the pecking order with 10 points from as many games.
“I am very proud and honoured to be leading my side out in the next round of The FA Vase,” said Jones.
“Wow! What a fantastic achievement by the lads but an even more Wow to what manager Danny Wakeling has done with his side.
“I know that I have a big job on my hands to get us ready for a very difficult tie away to Welling Town.
“I am sure if we continue to play the football that we have been playing, I am sure that we can get the result that we will need. We just need to start taking our chances.”
Since beating Oakwood, Erith & Belvedere have not won in their last five games in all competitions, losing their last three and Jones is keen to bounce back.
“The last three matches we should have got something but if we continue to create, I am sure that the goals should come,” added Jones.
“Welling Town have been excellent so the advantage is with them because of their home tie but let’s be honest it’s up to us to take the game to them and hopefully we can get the right result, so let’s play and believe it’s a great moment for the club.”
