We need to start taking our chances in front of goal, says Erith & Belvedere boss Owen Jones
ERITH & BELVEDERE manager Owen Jones says he wants his side to start taking their chances.
The Deres made six changes for their midweek trip to Snodland Town in the Hospitals Charity Cup First Round and went down to a 3-2 defeat to the Southern Counties East Football League First Division side to lose their grip on the silverware.
Erith & Belvedere beat Sutton Athletic 5-3 in the Final on Monday 13 May 2019 when they were a First Division side.
Jones’ side thrashed Oakwood 9-2 in The FA Vase Second Qualifying Round on Sunday 15 September and since then haven’t won. They lost 3-2 at Beckenham Town in their next league game and were held to a 2-2 draw at struggling Punjab United before their Cup exit to Simon Copley’s men.
Erith & Belvedere sit in eleventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 10 points from eight games and welcome a Deal Town side to Park View Road tomorrow, whom are a side immediately below them in the table on nine points from eight league outings.
“It’s going to be a very hard game because Deal are a very good side but so are we, so it makes for a very good game,” said Jones.
“Unfortunately, we lost our midweek Cup tie on Wednesday. We didn’t take our host of chances that we had created so we have to be on our front foot to beat Deal.
“Deal will be on it, we are playing quite well and need to be positive about getting a result.
“It is how we respond and it’s how we feel on the day. It’s going to be a great match and we need to start taking our chances in front of goal.”
