Anyone thinking Risborough is going to be an easy game is very much mistaken. It’s going to take a solid, committed, professional performance from us to get through to the next round, says Erith & Belvedere boss Del Oldfield
ERITH & BELVEDERE manager Del Oldfield calls for a professional performance from his side at Risborough Rangers tomorrow.
The two sides meet each other in The FA Vase First Round and Erith & Belvedere are the favourites to progress due to playing at a higher level than the Buckinghamside outfit.
Erith & Belvedere have climbed up to fifteenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with nine points from their 11 league outings, while Risborough Rangers have a 100% record from their five league games in the Hellenic League Division One East.
They are a couple of points adrift of leaders Wokingham & Emmbrook but with a couple of games in hand.
Since losing 5-1 at home to Corinthian on 20 October, Erith & Belvedere bounce back with a 3-1 win at Crowborough Athletic last time out.
“We’ve had a good couple of weeks, barring the defeat against Corinthian,” said Oldfield.
“We’ve managed to get important points on the board and move up the table, so we’ll be looking to build on that and take that confidence into tomorrow’s game.”
Oldfield calls for a professional performance in their FA Vase tie.
“Anyone thinking Risborough is going to be an easy game is very much mistaken. It’s going to take a solid, committed, professional performance from us to get through to the next round,” he said.
“Risborough are a free-scoring and flying high in their league and pose a particular threat from set-pieces, so we’re going to have to stay switched on for the whole 90 minutes.
“We’ve done as much homework on them as we possibly can and we go into the game full of confidence but fully aware and ready for the challenge that we know is waiting for us.
“They have a few experienced boys that have played at a very good level, so they are not to be taken lightly. That being said, we’ve been playing very well lately ourselves, so we’ll be looking to expose any weakness they may have.”
Jamie Humphris misses the game at Horsenden Lane due to being cup-tied, playing for Beckenham Town during their shock defeat to Littlehampton Town in the First Qualifying Round in September.
Oldfield said: “Jamie has been great for us since joining from Beckenham Town. I think he’s scored five goals in four starts so far, or so he keeps reminding me, so we’re going to miss him but we’ve strengthened our attacking options of late and confident that we still have the firepower to get the job done.”
