Erith Town's Ricky Bennett: We believe we’re getting more equipped to be able to climb further up the table now – but only good results will prove this

ERITH TOWN joint-manager Ricky Bennett says he is searching for more consistency in terms of results as he aims to climb the league table.

 

The Dockers came away from Deal Town with a vital 4-2 win last weekend, a result that gives them breathing space in the relegation dog-fight in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division.

Erith Town have collected 21 points from their 24 league outings and are now six points clear of the relegation zone, which is occupied by Fisher and Beckenham Town.

“I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s game after last week’s performance to be honest,” said Bennett, who runs the side alongside Ian Jenkins.

“We were very pleased with the way we played at Deal last week, albeit down to bare bones and a disrupted journey down, where everyone involved was a seven or eight out of 10.

“I have to say the pitch down there was the best I’ve seen it for years and it suited us for how we want the boys to try to play.

“Overall, we definitely deserved the win, although we let them back in the game midway through the second half by making a couple of wrong decisions, but what was most pleasing is that the boys showed a lot of character and desire to respond on the front foot and got stronger to go on and get a much needed win.”

Bennett is keen to make it back-to-back wins when sixth-placed AFC Croydon Athletic visit Oakwood tomorrow.

He said: “Tomorrow’s game will be another big ask for us as AFC Croydon Athletic are a very good side on their day with a potent front line but hopefully more bodies are available for squad selection, should stand us in good stead.

“I just want us to get some consistency in terms of our results, which hasn’t been the case as I feel a lot of our performances this season haven’t been as bad as some of the results suggest!

“Don’t get me wrong, we have had our share of shockers too but we believe we’re getting more equipped to be able to climb further up the table now – but only good results will prove this.”
