ERITH TOWN’S newly-appointed chief executive Mark Deveney has parted company with the club’s management team within two days of officially being unveiled by the club.

The Dockers have parted company with manager Ian Jenkins and his assistant Ricky Bennett today.

Speculation was doing the rounds that the club were going to withdraw from the Southern Counties East Football League but after finishing fourth-from-bottom in the Premier Division, having bagged 31 points from their 38 games, the club finished only three points clear of the drop zone, which was occupied by Fisher and Erith & Belvedere.

Erith Town suffered a humiliating 10-1 defeat at Fisher on the final day of the season, which didn’t do Jenkins or Bennett any favours in staying at the club.

“I felt I needed to have my own appointments going into a new season", Mr Deveney told www.erithtown.co.uk.

“I genuinely would like to thank both Jenko and Ricky for their efforts in keeping the club up last season and wish them all the very best for the future.”

A day earlier, a club statement said: “Erith Town Football Club are pleased to announce that Mark Deveney has taken control of the club and will be the club’s CEO and Treasurer.

“None of this would have been possible without the full support of the committee and especially Albert Putnam who has kindly accepted the offer to become the club’s president.

“Jim Davie will become vice-president and Ian Birrell will remain doing his sterling work as our chairman. 

“Going forward the club will continue to be ambitious for success on the field and will be working hard to grow the club within the local community.”
