We’re not expected to get anything out of it, but we’ll have a go, says Erith Town boss Adam Woodward
ERITH TOWN boss Adam Woodward says his side will enjoy Saturday’s FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie against Burgess Hill Town.
Woodward’s Dockers started their FA Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw away to their League rivals Rochester United before they won their delayed replay 5-0 in the Extra Preliminary Round.
Erith Town then came away from Bostik South side Whyteleafe with a 1-1 draw at Church Road, before winning a memorable replay.
Both sides scored two penalties each in a crazy seven minute spell just before half-time as Erith Town went in to the break 3-2 up, but Whyteleafe scrambled in an 80th minute equaliser but Erith Town won 4-1 on penalties to set up Saturday’s First Qualifying Round tie at home to Bostik Premier side Burgess Hill Town.
The Hillians begin their FA Cup campaign in this round due to their standing in the football pyramid. They arrive at Oakwood sitting in seventeenth-place in the table, having won one and drawn three of their opening five league outings.
“We’ll enjoy the day, it’s a FA Cup game, we’re not expected to get anything out of it, but we’ll have a go,” said Woodward.
“It’s a massive game for Erith Town but look we’re going out relaxed and well rested and go from there.”
Woodward criticised the Southern Counties East Football League heavily after his side played three games in six days.
Bostik League clubs are allowed to postpone their midweek League games before FA Cup ties.
“It just shows the class and the difference in the League’s,” added Woodward.
Erith Town have banked £3,425 in prize money from their FA Cup run so far this season, with another £3,000 up for grabs at the weekend.
