Erith Town boss Steve O'Boyle wants no more badshots on goal

Wednesday 01st September 2010
ERITH TOWN boss Steve O’Boyle says he has been disappointed with his side’s start to their Safety Net Associates Kent League campaign, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Dockers were wasteful during their 1-1 draw away to Corinthian on Bank Holiday Monday, especially after goals from central defender Martin Chirimuuta and midfielder Chris Walker secured a 2-0 win at Fisher 48 hours earlier.

When asked about his side’s campaign so far, which has warranted a win and two draws from their first four Kent League games of the new season, O’Boyle told www.kentishfootball.co.uk that he was expecting more than sixth place at present.

“How would I rate it? A little bit disappointed with our form,” replied O’Boyle.

“I thought we should’ve beaten Tunbridge Wells at home.  We was poor against Holmesdale away - they deserved to beat us and we should’ve won here (Corinthian) as well.

“I was looking for six points at the weekend so disappointing at the moment.  You’ve caught me straight after the game, I’m obviously a little bit down by obviously not winning here.”

The Dockers welcome Combined Counties League side Badshot Lea in the FA Vase first qualifying round on Saturday.

The Surrey outfit have moved from Farnborough’s ground to Ryman League Division One South Godalming Town and they sent a scout to watch the Dockers game at Corinthian.

“I think their going to be prepared for us,” said O’Boyle.  “They’re a good side as well so we know we’ve got a tough game on Saturday.

“We’ve looked at them and we know their a decent side.  They ain’t doing too bad in their league either and they’re going to be tough so we’re in for a tough game.

“Being at home, with the luck that we haven’t had today (at Corinthian), hopefully we’re going to have the luck on Saturday and go through.”

When asked his aspirations for the season ahead, O’Boyle replied, “What am I targeting this year? To finish higher than we did last year - top four - and hopefully do well in the Cups.”
