Faversham lend a helping hand
A young boy's dream of a new wheelchair became a little closer to reality this weekend thanks to the generosity of the supporters and friends of Faversham Town Football Club.
Seven year old Daniel Feakins of Preston Avenue, who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, is close to out growing his current motorised wheelchair and needs to raise £14,500 to fund a replacement chair.
Daniel, who is a pupil at Ospringe primary school currently has £3,000 in the new wheelchair fund was presented with a cheque for £625 by Faversham Town skipper Richie Radbourne prior to Faversham's home match against Slade Green this weekend.
Daniel's father Mick explained that the drive to raise funds for his son was an on-going affair.
He told www.favershamtownfc.co.uk : "It doesn't stop with buying the chair, the maintenance and upkeep of the hi-tech wheelchair is a constant financial challenge. Batteries, padded seats and tyres are all items that require regular repair and replacement and all have significant costs attached."
The Salters Lane faithful have raised money for Daniel with a ground collection as well as further collections at club social events.
With the fund raising on-going anyone who wishes to help Daniel achieve his goal can donate to the fund by contacting Faversham Town Football Club.
