We are disappointed with where we are in the league and we are striving to put that right and climb up the table, says Faversham Town coach Laurence Collins

FAVERSHAM TOWN coach Laurence Collins says he has set his players’ a target for their remaining 12 league games of the season.

The Lilywhites are sitting in fourteenth-place in the Isthmian League South East Division table, having collected 29 points and are seven points clear of the relegation zone.

“We highlighted that this would be a big month for the club,” said Collins, whose brother James is manager at Salters Lane.

“We challenged the boys to go unbeaten for the month, unfortunately we have had two of the five scheduled games for the month have been postponed, however we are unbeaten going into the final game of the month.

“We’re very pleased with the performances and results we put in against Burgess Hill and VCD Athletic.

“The boys applied the game plan and we have come away with four points and two clean sheets which is very pleasing.”

Lancing arrive at Salters Lane tomorrow sitting two places below Faversham and with one fewer point but having played a couple of games more.

“We have had Lancing watched and we are prepared for tomorrow’s clash,” said Collins.

“We drew 1-1 at their place earlier in the season, which I think was probably a fair result.

“They have only lost one of their last seven so we know it will be a tough game but I am confident with how we have prepared and confident we can come away with three points.”

The Collins’ brothers are keen to improve on their league position and to stay well clear of the relegation zone, which is still occupied by Phoenix Sports and Whitstable Town, who are both locked on 22 points with 10 games remaining.

“I don’t feel you can moan at any league position at this stage of the season,” said Laurence Collins.

“You are where you are for a reason and after 26 games you have to say that is fair reflection.  The old cliché is the league table doesn’t lie.

“Obviously, we are disappointed with where we are in the league and we are striving to put that right and climb up the table.

“It has been an indifferent season once again but we are where we are because of this and it’s down to us to change that tool.

“We know we are capable of more and it is just finding that consistency.

“This league can change in a matter of weeks as anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“I feel we’ve been dealt a tough hand with the number of injuries we have picked up at certain stages of the season but I guess that’s football and everyone gets some bad luck throughout the season that you have to adapt to.

“It has been a long two week break without a fixture and I can’t wait for Saturday.  It is the beginning of what will be 12 big games to finish off the season.

“We have set a mini target for those games and hopefully that will put us in good shape for next season.

“It has been my first year this side of the white line and I have loved every minute of it.

“The club is full of good people and we have a good group of lads in that changing room and I am looking forward to what the future holds for the club.”
