Faversham Town boss Ray Turner ties down Jack Harris

FAVERSHAM TOWN have released midfielder Darren Marsden but signed striker Jack Harris from Maidstone United on a permanent deal.

Harris, who has already scored 11 competitive goals for the Lilywhites this season in three consecutive one-month loan spells, requires little introduction to Faversham Town fans.

Harris, 20, was originally signed for a month at Faversham in the 2013/14 campaign, where he impressed during the loan period.

The former Tunbridge Wells striker returned again to Salters Lane in the early stages of the 2014/15 season in search of regular first-team football.

Harris once again impressed Faversham Town boss Ray Turner on loan.

However, after scoring in Faversham’s 5-1 loss to Hastings United, it appeared the striker would return to Ryman Premier League outfit Maidstone United with the loan spell due to expire.

This was until an agreement was struck between Stones manager Jay Saunders and Turner to allow Harris to remain with the Ryman League Division One South leaders.

Part of the agreement means the door remains open for the Ryman Premier League team to re-sign Harris, should the need arise.

“This deal was made possible after an agreement was reached between Jay and Jack that the door remains open for a return to Maidstone for Jack at some point in the future,” Turner told www.favershamtownfc.co.uk.

“I am sure all supporters will join me in welcoming this news and seeing Jack continue to develop, while scoring goals along the way.

“I am grateful once again to Jay for his cooperation in putting together a deal that benefits the player, as he strives to continue to improve. Whilst, crucially getting game time.”

Marsden only returned for the Hastings match after a long-term injury, which proved to be his last for the club.  He has since signed for league rivals Whitstable Town.

On the decision to release Marsden, 27, the Lilywhites boss added: “I would like to put on record my thanks for his considerable efforts during his spell at the club.

“Marso is one of the most talented players I have worked with and has the ability to turn games in an instant.

“I’m sure he will be an asset to his next club.”

Turner also explained the reasons behind the creative midfielder’s departure.

“I took the decision after seeing the side perform well in his absence,” he said.

“Whilst, considering the balance of the team moving forward and the emerging talents, such as George Monger, Sam Bewick and Daniel King alongside more established players like Wayne Wilson and Dave Botterill.”
