Faversham Town unveil Reardon as their new reserve team boss
Monday 21st June 2010
FAVERSHAM TOWN have today announced former Chatham Town under 18 boss Bob Reardon as their new reserve team, replacing John Goodwin, who stepped down at the end of last season’s campaign to take charge of Kent County League side Milton & Fulston United, writes Tony Gray.
Reardon joins the Salters Lane side after guiding Chatham Town Under 18s to triple victory in the 2009 / 2010 season collecting the Silverware in the Kent Youth League; Kent County Cup and Kent Challenge Cup as well as being Runners Up in the John Ullman Trophy.
Reardon will be joined at Faversham Town by Vince Crerie and Shane Mirza and between them the new management team bring 2 UEFA 'B' licences and one UEFA 'A' licence as the Salters Lane outfit look to strengthen in all areas as the club prepares for it's first taste of Ryman League Football in the season ahead.
First team assistant manager Ray Turner admitted that the application process had given himself and manager Justin Luchford plenty to think about - the club received twelve applicants for the post and three were short-listed for interview last week.
Turner told www.favershamtownfc.co.uk: "Bob and his team won the treble with Chatham Town under 18's last season, two of the team have UEFA B coaching qualifications the other is an A License coach.
“Emphasis will be placed on player development. It is vitally important the club creates the right structure throughout all three sides so that all players in particular local ones see a real opportunity of first team football.
“The reserve players next season will receive the very highest standards of coaching and we want to see these talented young players really grasp their opportunity to improve and learn. We want players to show real ambition next season throughout all three sides.
“With the under 18's having another successful season under Kevin Doyle it is important as many of these players as possible show the desire to continue into the reserves and ultimately onto First team football, Bob has been used to working with this age group and has a good knowledge of the best young players around.
“This all adds up to a very exciting prospect for the club, the supporters will see a very young and highly motivated reserve side that I am convinced will offer great entertainment, more importantly than that I am hopeful that these players will stay at the club a long time and ensure it's continued success."
New boss Reardon has already scheduled 2 trials sessions ahead of the new season with the invitation extended to current players and players from outside of the club.
The trial days are planned to attract young ambitious players wanting to achieve their potential both as individuals and as part of working within a team structure.
The trials will take place at the Abbey School, London Road, Faversham ME13 8RZ on Saturday 3rd July and Saturday 10th July. Participants should arrive at 10:30 with sessions commencing at 11:00.
