Faversham Town unveil their new management team

Friday 16th November 2007

Faversham Town's policy of promoting youthful talent has now filtered through to the first team. The Lilywhites have appointed a new management team of Justin Luchford and Jimmy Strouts who will replace caretaker manager Paul Piggott, writes Tony Gray.

Luchford,30 and Strouts,36, were appointed late on Thursday night following a recruitment process which saw 17 applicants bid for managerial power at the struggling Salters Lane outfit.

Nine games into the season, second from bottom with a total of 4 points many could be forgiven for writing the Lilywhites off for the season, not so for Luchford and Strouts who take the helm full of enthusiasm and confident that they can turn things around at the Lane.

Luchford, who's brother Dane saw first team action at Salters Lane last year, gets his first crack at first team management after a spell as Paul Fisk's assistant at fellow Kent League side Hythe Town which followed a playing career with Folkestone Invicta, Canterbury City and Hythe Town before being cut short by a serious knee injury.

Luchford will be partnered at Faversham by local footballing legend Jimmy Strouts.

Strouts boasts a playing career which, so far, covers an 18 year period and has taken him to a string of South-East clubs. The midfielder has seen action at Sittingbourne, Dover, Stevenage and Gravesend & Northleet.

Strouts is no stranger to the Kent Premier League and has twice experienced success winning the league title with Maidstone United and Whitstable Town.

He  joins the Lilywhites from Maidstone United and will adopt a player manager role as he hopes to play his part in turning things around for the Lilywhites.

The new management team waste no time in their efforts to resurrect the fortunes of the Faversham side as they take charge of the side in Saturday’s league fixture when they face Herne Bay at Winch's Field.

Strouts is in a race against time to complete his registration which, if successful, will allow him to take part in the match.

It seems likely that Justin and Jimmy are not the only new faces in the Faversham Town side as the duo will look to strengthen the squad in the coming weeks as they aim to steer the side away from the bottom half of the league.

Following Saturday’s league action Town travel to Thamesmead this coming Tuesday (20th) in the Premier League Cup competition.
