Firkins demands positive reaction

Friday 23rd October 2009
GREENWICH BOROUGH manager Steve Firkins says he will make changes to his side for tomorrow’s trip to Erith Town in the Kent League Cup, writes Stephen McCartney.

The first leg is being held at the Erith Stadium tomorrow, and Firkins, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk today, says he wants a good result to go into the second leg at Oakley Road seven days later.

Firkins' side that were defeated 4-0 by league leaders Faversham Town last weekend and is expected to wield the axe tomorrow.

“After last week’s disappointing result against Faversham, we have asked the players for a positive response in tomorrow’s first leg encounter against Erith Town,” said Firkins.

“We have had to make a few changes, some enforced and some by choice.”

Firkins has high hopes for tomorrow’s game, saying, “This should be one of the games of the day with both teams being able to produce good attacking football.

“As our recent league fixture produced an exciting 2-2 draw a couple of week’s back, the first leg will for us be about getting a decent result so as to give us a fighting chance in the second leg next week.

“Erith are, we feel, one of the better footballing sides in this league so for us to get any sort of result we are going to have to work a lot harder than we have of late.”
