Fisher boss Dean Harrison: The pressure is still on the club’s in the top six throwing the big money at it. We’re not one of those club’s so we’ll just keep working hard, staying humble and enjoying our football
FISHER manager Dean Harrison says there’s no pressure on his side in an exciting six-club title race.
The Rotherhithe outfit are enjoying their best ever season since reforming from the ashes of Fisher Athletic in 2011.
Fisher are holding on to top spot in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division with 44 points from 22 games.
Michael Golding has guided his Corinthian side to second-place with 44 points from 21 games.
Jason Huntley/Billy Walton has guided Beckenham Town to third with 46 points from 23 games, while Chatham Town (43 points from 20 games), Sheppey United (38 points from 21 games) and Cray Valley (37 points from 19 games) are all involved.
“It’s a shame two don’t go up,” said Harrison.
“There are some good fixtures tomorrow and the pressure is still on the club’s in the top six throwing the big money at it. We’re not one of those club’s so we’ll just keep working hard, staying humble and enjoying our football!”
Harrison was satisfied with his side’s point in a 1-1 draw down at Deal Town last Saturday, courtesy of an equaliser from super-sub Luke Haidarovic.
“The point we took at Deal last Saturday could be a really important one come the end of the season,” said Harrison.
“We were the better side over the 90 minutes but lacked quality in the final third and Deal defended stoutly with 10 men behind the ball after taking the lead in the first half.”
Fisher booked their place in the Quarter-Finals of the Challenge Cup after beating First Division side Snodland Town 2-1 at St Paul’s on Tuesday night.
Midfielder Rob Brown scored twice, taking his goalscoring tally up to 13 goals for the season.
Harrison said: “We scraped through in the League Cup against a technically decent Snodland side.
“We were hopeful before the game that our quality, organisation and fitness would win the day and fortunately it just about did in the end.”
Fisher welcome Bearsted tomorrow, a side that are in ninth-place in the table and lost 2-1 at home to Abbey Rangers after-extra-time in The FA Vase Last 32 last weekend.
Abbey Rangers have been drawn away to Cray Valley in the last sixteen, while Canterbury City host Coventry United on 2 February.
“We haven’t met Bearsted yet this season but they’ve had a great run in the Vase and are in a decent position in the league. It will be a tough game again at St Pauls.”
