Boss Dean Harrison quits Fisher: I couldn't take it there anymore!

Wednesday 13th July 2016

FISHER appear to be in disarray after their manager Dean Harrison quit last night – just 25 days before the start of the new season.

The club finished third-from-bottom in the Southern Counties East Football League last season but Harrison’s departure from the club is for off-the-field matters rather than on it.

Fisher were expected to move in to their new ground on Salter Road in Rotherhithe but that has been delays over who will actually operate the new ground, which has an artificial pitch.

Fisher are a supporter owned and run football club and is owned and run by the Fisher Supporters’ Trust, which is a democratic, not-for-profit organisation of supporters.

Harrison confirmed his resignation at 19:25 last night, saying, “To let you know, I’ve resigned from the Fisher job. I couldn’t take it there anymore!

“Working at the bottom of the tree becomes exceedingly difficult when the monkey at the top of it is constantly dropping coconuts on your head!”

The club posted a statement on its Twitter feed.

“We’d like to thank Dean for his hard work during his spell wish us and wish him luck for the future,” said the club.

“We have found it refreshing and very positive to hear that the squad have been in contact with each other after Dean’s departure.

“The general feeling is the squad are keen to stay together and continue to take the club forward this season.

“The club are working to find an interim leader to take charge while we carry out a full recruitment process.”

Fisher began their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 win at Crockenhill in Harrison’s last game in charge of the club last Saturday.

Fisher travel to Wrotham to play SCEFL1 side Kent Football United on Saturday.

Fisher are not competing in either The FA Cup or FA Vase this season because the St Paul’s Sports Ground failed ground grading criteria, where clubs must pass at the end of March.

A club spokesman said: “It is true the club have suffered delays in achieving the required ground grading and we have unfortunately missed the deadline for FA competitions.

“However, we are working very closely with the council to complete the required works, including weekly site meetings with the council officers.  The work includes signage and final fixtures and fittings such as the installation of benches in the changing rooms. The council are also in continuous contact with the League.

“We are also finalising two pre-season fixtures to be played at the new venue including a limited capacity test fixture on Saturday 30 July before the grand opening on Saturday 6 August. Opposition details are not yet finalised.”
