Fisher chairman Ben Westmancott: The club is looking forward to celebrating reaching our goal of getting Fisher back home

FISHER will make an emotional return to Rotherhithe on Saturday as the club end their 12-year exile from their homeland.

The Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division club have announced that Saturday’s Pre-Season Friendly against newly-promoted Andreas Carter Joma Kent County League side Farnborough Old Boys Guild will take place at St Paul’s Sports Ground on Salter Road, which is close to their former stadium.

The club have been working hard over the summer, in conjunction with Southwark Council and the Southern Counties Football League, to ensure that the new stadium passes all the necessary inspection and ground grading tests ahead of the new season.

Over the next two weeks Fisher will host two test evens at St Paul’s, before competitive football returns to Rotherhithe on Saturday 13 August with the first game of the new season against Rochester United.

Saturday’s game against Farnborough Old Boys Guild will be a chance for club officials to trial operations and facilities at the new stadium and is normal of the opening of any new football ground, will be subject to a restricted attendance of 250.

The club advise supporters that there will be very limited catering facilities in place for the game, with a broader offer in place for the visit of Otford United, who play one level lower than Farnborough, seven days later.

The Fisher club shop will, however, be open for business at both matches, alongside the chance to sign up as a member and become a part-owner of the club for just £10.

Fisher is owned and run by the Fisher Supporters’ Trust, operating as a democratic, not-for-profit organisation, run for the good of the community.  The club rely on their members to keep running.

Supporters will also be able to pick up season tickets for the season ahead at just £80 for members – the equivalent of getting five free matches when compared to buying for the 18 league games on a matchday.

Chairman Ben Westmancott said: “This is a huge step forward for Fisher FC, with football finally being played back in Rotherhithe.

“A lot of hard work has been put in to reach this stage and everyone connected with the club is looking forward to celebrating reaching our goal of getting Fisher back home.

“These friendlies will be a great warm-up not just for the first team but also for our matchday team – we’ll need to get our turnstiles sharpness back!”
