I'm not the first person to say it's not been good enough, admits Fisher boss Gary Abbott

FISHER manager Gary Abbott says losing their basement battle against Deal Town last weekend was not good enough!

Derek Hares’ side came away from Rotherhithe with a 3-2 win which leaves Fisher rooted to the foot of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table.

Fisher have lost 10 of their 15 games in the league and have banked 7 points this season and have failed to win a league game on their artificial pitch at St Paul’s Stadium.

Despite having a glittering playing career, even Abbott hasn’t been able to bring results to one of his former clubs.

“Our last match against Deal just wasn’t good enough! Deal wanted it more than us and you could see that,” said Abbott.

“They came to our ground knowing that we do play good one-two touch football, attacking teams like we do and will do in every game, home or away.

“Deal scored after two minutes with a shot from the edge of the box and it trickles in through seven or eight players.  The second came when my centre half messed about with the ball trying to take their forward on when he should have just passed then gets caught and we’re 2-0 down after 10 minutes.

“Twenty minutes later another mistake in our six-yard box where we had two or three chances to clear the ball but same old story – we lose it and they score their third goal.

“So from my point of view that is just not good enough!

“We were 3-0 down at half-time and that was not expected.  I made three changes in the second half and went to a 3-5-2 formation and you could say it was definitely a game of two halves.

“We came out wanting to win this game and it showed with our quick passing football. We scored after 15 minutes, now there was only one team in it.

“We scored again on 85 minutes but in between that we dominated the half and should have made it 3-3 but their goalkeeper made saves and the ball was cleared off the line and we just couldn’t score the third goal.

“I can’t fault the boys in the second half but we lost it in the first and gave ourselves too much to do, which is so disappointing, but we get on with it.”

Abbott takes his side to relegated club Whitstable Town, whom are sitting in the top eight and are 10 points adrift of leaders Ashford United.

He said: “We go to Whitstable for another tough game.  They’re on a good run but let’s hope they don’t take us lightly because we’re bottom, but I’m looking forward to it and the boys will be up for it.  We will be going to get three points.

“Our supporters have been brilliant in every game. They were cheering at half-time when we were 3-0 down. I think that shows you what they are like.  I just hope we can turn things around, starting at Whitstable.

“We have no budget at all but I don’t want to keep saying that but we are confident we will turn this around.  Let’s hope November is where this happens because it has to.

“I’m not the first person to say it’s not been good enough. We’re making too many mistakes and it’s got to stop and players’ have got to take responsibility as well once they pass that white line.”
