Fisher problems mount both on and off the pitch
FISHER ATHLETIC urge as many supporters as possible to attend Monday night’s home game against Bath City, as they fight for survival both on and off the pitch, writes Stephen McCartney.
It has been a mixed week for the troubled south London club.
Last Wednesday they escaped a winding-up order at the Royal Courts of Justice in central London for the unpayment of tax.
But Dave Mehmet’s side went sixteen games without picking up a point when they lost 3-0 at Bromley today and remain rooted at the foot of the Blue Square South table.
The Fish can still mathematically maintain their current league status, however, that seems unlikely due to their current form, which is the club’s worst run of results in living memory.
They have failed to score in their last four games, the last goal came against Eastleigh when turnstile operator Donna Powell took charge of the 2-1 home defeat, amidst plenty of media attention.
Meanwhile, the club have discussed their options, ahead of their fourth court appearance next month.
“The courts allowed Fisher an extra 49 days to clear their debt to the Inland Revenue, effectively ensuring the Fish can complete the season,” said a statement posted on www.fisherathletic.co.uk.
"There was also renewed hope that the Fish would not have to reform in the summer when the Muduroglu’s, the family who own the controlling stake in the club, told local paper The Southwark News this week that a re-mortgaging The Surrey Docks Stadium or Champion Hill was likely to free up funds to pay the bill.
“However, the clubs owners and the Inland Revenue are still to reach an agreement over the figure owed, The Muduroglu’s claiming the figure of £230,000 was based on incorrect turnover reports.”
